1. A method for allocation and pre-emption of transmission resources for sidelink communications in a cellular wireless communication system, the method comprising the steps of:
at a first UE receiving a transmission resource reservation message from a second UE, the reservation message being for first transmission resources for a sidelink transmission by the second UE at a first priority level;
at the first UE selecting second transmission resources for a sidelink transmission by the first UE at a second priority level which is higher than the first priority level, the second transmission resources overlapping with at least part of the first transmission resources; and
at the first UE transmitting a sidelink control information message which indicates reservation of the second transmission resources by the first UE, and which indicates to the second UE that the overlapping first transmission resources are pre-empted;
wherein the method further comprises:
estimating a channel busy ratio (CBR) of a sidelink resource pool associated with a sidelink channel, wherein the CBR is indicative of loading of the sidelink channel;
selecting the second transmission resources or making a pre-emption decision based on whether the estimated CBR is greater than a pre-defined CBR threshold;
wherein the first UE that fails to reserve a resource after a predetermined number of attempts reduces the pre-defined CBR threshold.
