1. An earpiece suitable for use with headphones, the earpiece comprising:
a housing defining an interior volume, the housing including an aperture formed through an exterior wall of the housing such that a shape of the aperture is defined by an aperture sidewall portion of the exterior wall;
an annular earpad coupled to the earpiece housing;
an acoustic driver disposed within the interior volume;
an electronic component disposed within the interior volume;
a button assembly disposed at an exterior surface of the housing, the button assembly comprising:
a button cap having a front-facing surface that protrudes from the housing and a button sidewall that surrounds the front-facing surface, wherein the button sidewall is spaced apart from the aperture sidewall such that the button cap fits within the aperture and, when depressed, partially slides into the interior volume of the housing;
a window positioned at the front-facing surface;
an illumination source coupled to move with the button cap and positioned to direct light into the window;
an actuator coupled to a backside of the button assembly; and
a flex circuit that electrically couples the illumination source to the electronic component; and
an electrical switch coupled to the flex circuit, wherein the button assembly is configured to be moved between an unactuated position in which the actuator is spaced apart from the electrical switch and an actuated position in which the button cap slides partially into the interior volume until the actuator contacts the electrical switch.
