1. A method for detecting media content start events, the method implemented at a network node communicatively connected to a monitoring device and comprising:
receiving, at the network node, data packets from the monitoring device, wherein the data packets comprise a pattern of one or more features indicating a media content start event for media content being provided to a subscriber;
analyzing, at the network node, the pattern of one or more features, wherein the analyzing comprises filtering the data packets received from the monitoring device by:
filtering the data packets received from the monitoring device to estimate an objective for the data packets;
filtering the filtered data packets based on the objective to include only the data packets received from the monitoring device that are expected to impact the detection of the media content start event; and
generating, for the objective, metrics St for the data packets transmitted in a predetermined time frame t, wherein generating the metrics St comprises the filtering of the filtered data packets based on the objective to include only the data packets expected to impact the detection of the media content start event, and wherein the data packets expected to impact the detection of the media content start event comprise data packets associated with one or both of:
retrieving a file identifying one or more possible addresses for providing the media content; and
requesting portions of the media content;
wherein the predetermined time frame t has a time duration td plus a time offset tα between two subsequent time ranges t1 and t2, and wherein a first predetermined time frame t overlaps at least one of a previous time frame t−1 and a next time frame t+1 such that the first predetermined time frame t and the at least one of the previous time frame t−1 and the next time frame t+1 share a common value; and
detecting, at the network node, the mediacontent start event based on the analysis of the pattern of one or more features.
