1. A method, comprising:
determining that a destination of a packet, received at a network device of a network, is a multihomed destination;
in response to determining that the destination of the packet is a multihomed destination, determining a hash value from one or more header values of the packet using a hash function; and
forwarding the packet to the destination using a shadow hash forwarding table based at least in part on determining that an updated forwarding table has not converged in the network and, based on the hash value and a hash forwarding table, that the network device is a designated forwarder for the packet.
