1. An electronic device comprising:
an electronic display comprising:
a backlight configured to generate light based on backlight data, wherein the backlight comprises a first color component illuminator and a second color component illuminator, the first color component illuminator having a slower response rate than the second color component illuminator; and
a plurality of display pixels configured to modulate an amount of the generated light emitted from the electronic display to display an image during an image frame; and
processing circuitry configured to regulate, via the backlight data, a change in a brightness level of the backlight from a first brightness level to a second brightness level, wherein regulating the change in the brightness level comprises staging the change in the brightness level over a plurality of sub-frames of the image frame.
