1. A method of creating a definition for a type of building equipment in a building automation system, the method comprising:
automatically identifying, by a processor of the building automation system, a first data point associated with a first device of the type of building equipment operated to affect a variable state or condition within a building;
determining, by the processor, whether an instance number of the first data point matches an instance identification of a first point definition of the first data point if the first data point is a master slave token passing (MSTP) data point;
automatically mapping, by the processor, a network reference of the first data point to an equipment object attribute corresponding to the first point definition of the first data point if the instance number of the first data point matches the instance identification of the first point definition of the first data point;
determining, by the processor, whether the first data point is an N2 data point, if the first data point is not the MSTP data point;
determining, by the processor, whether a point address and type of the first data point match an N2 address and type of the first point definition of the first data point if the first data point is the N2 data point; and
automatically mapping, by the processor, the network reference of the first data point to the equipment object attribute corresponding to the first point definition of the first data point if the point address and type of the first data point match the N2 address and type of the first point definition.
