1. An airfoil assembly for a turbine engine, the airfoil assembly comprising:
a platform defining an inner surface and an outer surface;
a variable pitch airfoil extending radially from the outer surface of the platform, the variable pitch airfoil extending from a root to a tip to define a span length;
a mounting structure having a curved mounting surface and defining at least a portion of a hub; and
a yielding interface affixed to the platform inner surface and the curved mounting surface, wherein the yielding interface provides yielding in a plurality of directions between the platform and the mounting structure and wherein the yielding interface includes a spring, a crushable interface, or a combination thereof.
