1. A rotary steerable system (“RSS”) comprising:
a first end:
a second end opposite the first end:
an upper connection positioned at the first end and configured to be coupled to a drill string;
a lower connection positioned at the second end:
an independently rotating inner member extending between the upper connection and the lower connection;
an outer member that at least partially surrounds the independently rotating inner member and extends between the upper connection and the lower connection; and
a gap sub located on the outer member,
wherein the independently rotating inner member includes an electromagnetic signal generator configured to create a current across the independently rotating inner member, and
wherein the current created by the electromagnetic signal generator is transferred to the outer member and interrupted by the gap sub.
