1. An implantable medical device comprising:
a power subunit comprising
a first biocompatible electrically conductive shell configured for direct contact with an in vivo environment;
a lithium anode disposed within the first biocompatible electrically conductive shell in direct electrical communication with a feedthrough pin, wherein the feedthrough pin is electrically isolated from the first biocompatible electrically conductive shell; and
a cathode disposed within the first biocompatible electrically conductive shell;
a lid for the power subunit; and
a cathode connection tab configured to provide electrical communication between the cathode, the lid, and the first biocompatible electrically conductive shell;
wherein the first biocompatible electrically conductive shell has a positive electrical potential.
