1. A method for inserting a medical device into a patient through a sheath system, the method comprising:
inserting a sheath assembly into a blood vessel of a patient, thereby creating an arteriotomy, the sheath assembly comprising:
a sheath body having a longitudinal axis, and first and second ends;
first and second lumens, each extending along the longitudinal axis between the first and second ends of the sheath body, the first lumen configured for passage of a medical device therethrough, and the second lumen configured to allow a flow of fluid from the blood vessel in the second lumen; and
a stylet;
passing a medical device through the first lumen; and
pulling the stylet to allow blood to flow through the second lumen from a location upstream of the arteriotomy to a location downstream of the arteriotomy.
