1. A surgical navigation system comprising:
a tracking device configured to be affixed to at least one of a patient or a surgical tool, the tracking device comprising:
a plurality of light sources, and
a driver coupled to the plurality of light sources, the driver configured to selectively illuminate the plurality of light sources; and
a surgical tracking system comprising a sensor configured to identify the plurality of light sources, the tracking system configured to:
(a) obtain a first image when the plurality of light sources are not illuminated,
(b) obtain a second image when the plurality of light sources are illuminated,
(c) compare the first image to the second image,
(d) determine a quality of the second image based on the comparison of the first image to the second image,
(e) compare the determined quality of the second image to a threshold,
(f) in response to a determination that the determined quality violates the threshold, repeat steps (a)-(e), and
(g) in response to a determination that the determined quality satisfies the threshold, determine a pose of the tracking device based on the second image.
