1. A system for manufacturing a shoe, the system comprising:
a last;
a last extension reversibly joinable to the last, the last extension comprising a pattern defining an origin on the last extension;
a sensor for detecting the pattern; and
a processor configured to determine the origin based on the pattern and to map the origin to a corresponding location on the last, wherein the mapped origin guides positioning of operations to be performed on the last during a manufacturing process.
