1. An electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery, the electrolyte comprising:
a non-aqueous organic solvent;
a lithium salt; and
an additive,
wherein:
the additive includes a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1:

in Chemical Formula 1, R1 is an unsubstituted C2 to C10 alkenyl group or an unsubstituted C2 to C10 alkynyl group, and
the compound represented by Chemical Formula 1 is included in an amount of about 0.2 wt % to about 1.5 wt %, based on a total weight of the electrolyte.
