1. A cannula insertion device comprising:
a movable first carriage movable within a vertical slide mechanism, the first carriage comprising a cannula supported on an insertion trocar or needle;
a fixed yoke comprising a first channel and a second channel, wherein the first channel is oriented horizontally and the second channel intersects the first channel and is oriented obliquely relative to the first channel;
a linkage connected to the first carriage and extending into the first channel; and
a torsion spring with one end connected to the linkage;
wherein the torsion spring rotates the linkage to move in the first channel and slide the first carriage vertically toward an infusion site, and to move into the second channel after the cannula is fully inserted.
