1. A bonding apparatus for manufacturing an elastic composite structure comprising an elastic thread secured between a pair of facing web layers, the bonding apparatus comprising:
a rotary anvil having a face;
a first curved contour including a plurality of first anchoring welds that extend outward from the face of the rotary anvil with adjacent first anchoring welds constructed to form pairs of adjacent first anchoring bonds that fuse the pair of facing web layers together and anchor the elastic thread passing between the adjacent first anchoring bonds in position relative to the pair of facing web layers;
a curved break bar extending outward from the face of the rotary anvil and which is constructed to sever the elastic thread; and
wherein the curved break bar at least partially overlaps the first curved contour in a circumferential direction of the rotary anvil to provide a continuous running contact of the bonding apparatus with a blade horn during operation.
