1. A method of making a vulcanized article, comprising:
providing a multi-layered structure having a core layer having a first side and a second side, wherein a cap layer has first side and a second side, wherein the first side of the cap layer is disposed on the first side of the core layer;
placing a portion of an uncured or partially cured rubber layer directly in contact with the second side of the cap layer to form a layered article; and
exposing the layered article to a condition effective to vulcanize at least a portion of the uncured or Partially cured rubber to produce the vulcanized article;
wherein, prior to the exposing, the cap layer comprises a blended material comprising at least one polydiene polyol-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and at least one uncured or partially cured rubber compound; and
wherein the exposing is effective to cure at least a portion of the uncured or partially cured rubber layer compounds of the blended material of the cap layer, and to bond and crosslink the cap layer to the at least a portion of the rubber layer in direct contact with the cap layer.
