1. A method for acquiring an Internet Protocol (IP) lease, the method comprising:
sending, by a network device at a customer premises to a posture controller at a service provider system, a request to use by the network device a preferred acquisition posture to acquire an IP lease, wherein the network device is provisioned with multiple acquisition postures including the preferred acquisition posture;
receiving, by the network device from the posture controller at the service provider system, a selected acquisition posture based on network device information for use by the network device to acquire the IP lease in response to the request;
attempting, by the network device, to acquire the IP lease using the selected acquisition posture; and
operating, by the network device, using the acquired IP lease.
