1. A method comprising:
connecting, by a root battery-powered device (BPD) node, to one or more descendant BPD nodes, wherein the root BPD node and the one or more descendant BPD nodes comprise a BPD subtree within a wireless network, wherein the BPD subtree is managed according to a set of subtree parameters different from subtree parameters for subtrees of a main network to which the root BPD is connected;
receiving, by the root BPD node from a first BPD node, a request to join the BPD subtree;
and
transmitting, by the root BPD node to the first BPD node and based on the set of subtree parameters, a response to the first BPD node.
