1. A cutting element, comprising:
a substrate;
a volume of polycrystalline diamond (PDC) disposed on the substrate;
a front cutting face located on the volume of PDC;
a lateral side surface extending from the front cutting face;
a first side flat surface and a second side flat surface formed into the lateral side surface and extending to the front cutting face; and
a cutting edge comprising a cutting apex extending between the first side flat surface and the second side flat surface, the first side flat surface and the second side flat surface being disposed on opposing sides of the cutting apex of the cutting edge, the cutting edge further comprising a first chamfer surface and a second chamfer surface, the first and second chamfer surfaces located adjacent to one another and oriented at a first angle relative to one another at the cutting apex, the first chamfer surface being interrupted by the first side flat surface and the second side flat surface, the second chamfer surface extending completely around the cutting edge, and the cutting edge comprising one of:
an arcuate edge having a radius of curvature; and
a linear edge having at least two discrete linear edges adjacent one another and separated by a second angle.
