1. A treatment system for the treatment of dry eye syndrome of a patient comprising:
an intense pulsed light (IPL) source;
a controller configured to control the IPL source;
a fibre bundle detachably connected at its proximal end to the IPL source;
a disposable tip detachably connected to a distal end of the fibre bundle and having a contact surface made of bio-compatible material configured for contacting the outer surface of the eyelid of an eye of a patient;
a corneal shield comprised of a flexible biocompatible material doped with TiO2 titanium(II)oxide) and having two or more layers of a blue pigment light absorbing material, and one or more layers of light reflective material; and
the corneal shield configured for placement on a cornea of the eye to protect the eye during treatment with light from the IPL source.
