1. A hub apparatus for providing out-of-band management for a bi-directional free-space-optical (FSO) data channel associated with a first device and a second device, the hub apparatus comprising:
a processor;
a memory coupled with the processor;
an FSO hub transmitter coupled with the processor; and
an FSO hub receiver coupled with the processor, wherein:
the FSO hub receiver is configured for:
receiving a first signal from the first device;
receiving a second signal from the second device; and
detecting a collision of the first signal and the second signal based on a width of a first received pulse;
the first received pulse is a combination of the first signal and the second signal;
the first signal is a synchronized signal;
the second signal is a non-synchronized signal;
the first signal and the second signal are received on a bi-directional FSO control channel;
the FSO hub transmitter is configured for transmitting a system identifier signal to the first device; and
the first signal is transmitted from the first device based on receiving the system identifier signal.
