1. An accessory mounting system for mounting an accessory on a vehicle, the accessory mounting system comprising:
a mounting assembly, comprising:
an elongated rail removably connectable to the vehicle, the elongated rail being provided with a slot extending therealong and opening on a top surface of the elongated rail;
a connector having a head portion adapted to be slidably mounted within the slot of the elongated rail, and a shank portion integrally formed with and extending from the head portion and vertically above the top surface of the elongated rail; and
a mounting fixture connectable to the shank portion of the connector and adapted to selectively have a portion of the accessory be connected thereto, the mounting fixture being connectable to the connector in a manner such that moving the connector along the slot correspondingly displaces the mounting fixture along the elongated rail to enable adjustment of a position of the accessory on the vehicle, the mounting fixture being adapted to be secured to the connector, thereby squeezing the elongated rail between the mounting fixture and the connector,
wherein the mounting fixture is configured to remain secured to the connector upon disconnection of the portion of the accessory.
