1. A method for a portable terminal apparatus, the method comprising:
receiving, by an operation input interface, an input corresponding to a user operation;
performing wireless communication with an external device;
controlling state transitions of the portable terminal apparatus to and from a sleep state;
operating a display of the portable terminal apparatus in one of a plurality of display modes, the plurality of display modes including:
a first display mode during which a first screen to be transitioned to a screen for performing authentication to execute an unlock operation is displayed on the display without display of a control icon for controlling the external device when the portable terminal apparatus wakes up from the sleep state with a first condition met, wherein the first condition is met when a control screen for remotely and wirelessly controlling the external device via the wireless communication is not displayed on the display before the portable terminal apparatus enters the sleep state;
a second display mode during which the first screen to be transitioned to the screen for performing authentication to execute the unlock operation is displayed on the display without display of the control icon for controlling the external device when the portable terminal apparatus wakes up from the sleep state with a second condition met, wherein the second condition is met when the portable terminal apparatus is unable to communicate with the external device via the wireless communication and the control screen is displayed on the display before the portable terminal apparatus enters a sleep state; and
a third display mode during which the control icon for controlling the external device and the first screen to be transitioned to the screen for performing authentication to execute the unlock operation are displayed on the display when the portable terminal apparatus wakes up from the sleep state with a third condition met, wherein the third condition is met when the portable terminal apparatus is able to communicate with the external device via the wireless communication and the control screen is displayed on the display before the portable terminal apparatus enters the sleep state, and wherein the control screen is used to execute control operations on the external device based on the input received by the operation input interface, and
executing, in response to selecting the control icon in the third display mode without the unlock operation, a control corresponding to the selected control icon.
