1. A drive system comprising:
a first drive module that includes:
a planetary gearset having a sun gear, carrier with planetary gears, and a ring gear;
a brake that selectively couples the ring gear to ground; and
a clutch that selectively couples the ring gear to an input shaft;
wherein the input shaft is coupled to the clutch and the sun gear;
wherein a secondary output shaft is coupled to the ring gear and the clutch; and
wherein a final output shaft is coupled to the carrier;
a second drive module that includes:
a planetary gearset having a sun gear, carrier with planetary gears, and a ring gear; and
a brake that selectively couples the carrier to ground;
wherein a primary input shaft is coupled to the sun gear, and is removably coupled to the secondary output shaft of the first drive module; and
wherein an output shaft is coupled to the ring gear, and is removably coupled to the final output shaft of the first drive module; and
an electric motor, wherein an output shaft of the electric motor is coupled to the input shaft of the first drive module;
wherein the final output shaft of the first drive module is coupled to a drive axle;
wherein the first drive module is mounted within a first housing, and wherein the second drive module is mounted within a second separate housing different from the first housing; and
wherein at least a portion of the second housing is receivable by a portion of the first housing to mount the first drive module to the second drive module.
