1. A method of making a diorganyl diselenide-clubbed quaternary purine having a formula I:

R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of C2-C3 alkyl and
![]() R3 is selected from the group consisting of H, COOMe, and COOEt, and
R4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, 4-NO2—C6H4, 4-F2—C6H4, and 4-MeO—C6H4;
the method comprising:
combining a guanine base, benzaldehyde, and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) to provide a solution;
adding methyl iodide to the solution; and
adding zirconium (IV) chloride and a diselenide compound to the solution to provide the diorganyl diselenide-clubbed quaternary purine in the solution.
