1. A breathing assistance apparatus providing pressure-based therapy in a first mode and high flow therapy in a second mode, the breathing assistance apparatus comprising:
a gases supply unit adapted to, in use, deliver a stream of pressurized gases;
an outlet for supplying, in use, the stream of pressurized gases; and
a control system associated with the gases supply unit adapted to:
set a mode of operation to at least one of the pressure-based mode or the high flow therapy mode, wherein in the pressure-based mode, the breathing assistance apparatus delivers gases at at least one of a fixed pressure or a controlled pressure, and in the high flow therapy mode, the breathing assistance apparatus delivers gases at at least one of a fixed flow rate or a controlled flow rate, and
adjust an operating parameter between a condition suitable for the pressure-based mode and a condition suitable for the high flow therapy mode.
