1. A disinfectant composition comprising:
an aqueous solution of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and acetic acid (HAc), the HAc present at a higher concentration than the HOCl, wherein the aqueous solution is mixed in an environment that is made air-free by degassing through reduced pressure; and an excipient comprising silica, clay material, glycerol, or cellulose;
wherein the composition is free of air and metal ions and wherein the composition has a pH between 4.0 and 5.0; and
wherein the aqueous solution has been made substantially-free of the metal ions by cycling water through more than one ion exchange cycle to remove CO32− ions and HCO3 ions from the water thereby producing water substantially-free of CO32− ions and HCO3 ions.
