1. A patient support apparatus for supporting a patient, the patient support apparatus comprising:
a support frame;
a deck section arranged for pivoting movement about an axis relative to the support frame between a first position and a second position with the deck section being arranged closer to the support frame in the second position than in the first position; and
an actuator interposed in force-translating relation between the support frame and the deck section, the actuator including;
a biasing device,
an interface coupled to the biasing device and arranged to receive torque,
a link operatively attached between the deck section and the interface to transfer torque to the biasing device in response to pivoting movement of the deck section from the first position towards the second position,
a planetary gearset coupled between the interface and the link to multiply torque stored in the biasing device, and
a latch mechanism selectively operable between:
an engaged position to restrict pivoting movement of the deck section, and
a disengaged position to permit pivoting movement of the deck section towards the first position with the torque from the biasing device.
