1. A reference device for real-time tracking of bone and/or surgical objects in computer-assisted surgery, the device comprising:
an upper member having an upper surface, a lower surface and a plurality of circular cylindrical holes penetrating through the upper member such that each of the plurality of holes has an upper orifice at the upper surface of the upper member and a lower orifice at the lower surface of the upper member; and
a lower member that covers the lower orifices of the plurality of holes;
wherein each of the plurality of holes defines a circular cylindrical reference element having a diameter d and a height h,
wherein a ratio between the diameter d and the height h of each of the reference elements is a minimum of 1:3,
wherein the upper member is a plate shaped body,
wherein the upper member comprises, at least at a periphery of the plurality of holes, a radiopaque, medical grade material selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, titanium and plastic, and
wherein the lower member is made of a radiolucent material.
