1. A method of ring hole planning for an external fixation frame, the method comprising:
displaying on a display device a first virtual fixation ring including a plurality of virtual holes, the first virtual fixation ring corresponding to a first physical fixation ring, the plurality of virtual holes corresponding to a plurality of physical holes in the first physical fixation ring;
displaying on the display device a first portion of a virtual strut positioned within a first one of the virtual holes in a virtual default strut mounting position, wherein the virtual strut corresponds to a physical strut;
the first virtual hole corresponding to a first one of the physical holes, the first physical fixation ring including an indicator adjacent to the first physical hole to indicate the first physical hole is a physical default strut mounting position;
determining that a desired correction cannot be performed with the physical strut mounted to the first physical fixation ring at the physical default strut mounting position;
in response to determining that the desired correction cannot be performed, selecting on the display device, via a user input device, a second one of the virtual holes, wherein the second virtual hole corresponds to a second physical hole of the first physical fixation ring, the second physical hole being a physical non-default strut mounting position;
in response to selecting the second virtual hole, updating the display device to display the first portion of the virtual strut positioned within the second virtual hole; and
determining that the desired correction can be performed with the physical strut mounted to the first physical fixation ring at the physical non-default strut mounting position.
