1. A surgical implement operable to ream a patient's bone during a procedure to implant a surgical component, the surgical implement comprising:
a cutting head that includes a plurality of helical cutting flutes arranged to correspond with a configuration of the surgical component; and
one or more grooves formed into at least one of the helical cutting flutes, each of the one or more grooves forming a depression at an edge of an associated helical cutting flute, and arranged at one or more radial distances from a longitudinal axis of the cutting head, wherein the cutting head and the one or more grooves are positioned and dimensioned such that, when the reamer device is inserted into an intramedullary canal, the depression of the one or more grooves is structurally aligned with a syndesmotic fixation hole of the surgical component.
