1. A surgical stapling instrument comprising:
(a) a body;
(b) a shaft extending distally from the body;
(c) an end effector operatively coupled with the shaft, wherein the end effector includes:
(i) a first jaw, and
(ii) a second jaw configured to cooperate with the first jaw to compress and staple tissue;
(d) a battery pack removably coupled with the body; and
(e) a control circuit coupled with the battery pack, wherein the battery pack and the control circuit are configured to drive the end effector to perform an operation on tissue, wherein the control circuit is configured to:
(i) monitor a duration of time elapsed since a predetermined event, wherein the control circuit is configured to transition the battery pack from a first mode to a second mode in response to detecting that the duration of time is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold duration of time,
(ii) monitor a power level associated with the battery pack, wherein the control circuit is configured to transition the battery pack from at least one of the first or second modes to a third mode in response to detecting that the power level is less than a predetermined threshold power level, and
(iii) monitor a voltage of the battery pack, wherein the control circuit is configured to transition the battery pack from at least one of the first or second modes to the third mode in response to detecting that the voltage is less than a predetermined threshold voltage,
wherein the control circuit is configured to monitor progress of the operation performed by the end effector on tissue, wherein the control circuit is configured to transition the battery pack into the third mode in response to detecting that the operation is complete,
wherein the control circuit is configured to transition the battery pack from the second mode to the third mode in response to detecting that the voltage is less than the predetermined threshold voltage.
