13. A system comprising:
a hearing instrument comprising a battery; and
a processing system configured to:
determine a plurality of hypothetical future state of charge (SOC) functions, each of the hypothetical future SOC functions corresponding to a respective predicted timeline in which the hearing instrument has at least one of: different device states or different durations of the device states;
estimate a plurality of preliminary amounts of time remaining until a future SOC of a battery of the hearing instrument reaches a threshold using the plurality of hypothetical future SOC functions; and
determine, based on the plurality of preliminary amounts of time remaining, a final amount of time remaining until the future SOC of the battery reaches the threshold.
