1. A method comprising, at a node in a distributed network:
during a first slot in a series of slots of a blockchain comprising a challenge chain and a reward chain:
initiating a challenge verifiable delay function for the challenge chain based on a first slot challenge associated with the first slot;
initiating a reward verifiable delay function for the reward chain based on the first slot challenge; and
during a first signage point interval in the first slot:
broadcasting a first challenge chain signage point in response to executing a first quantity of iterations of the challenge chain verifiable delay function; and
broadcasting a first reward chain signage point in response to executing a second quantity of iterations of the reward chain verifiable delay function;
receiving, from the distributed network, a first block comprising:
a first proof-of-space based on the first slot challenge and the first challenge chain signage point; and
the first reward chain signage point; and
infusing the first block into the reward chain.
