1. A method comprising:
grouping packets entering each switch of a plurality of switches in a network fabric, the grouping of packets based on 5-tuple matchings representing a flow;
collecting in hardware in-line at each switch associated with the grouping of packets, performance statistics at hops in the network fabric across flows in-line in a flow table maintained at each switch; and
periodically exporting the performance statistics to an analysis module.
