1. A method, comprising:
storing, by a de-multiplexer (DEMUX) module of a reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM), data indicative of a current status of the ROADM, the ROADM comprising the DEMUX module and one or more multiplexer (MUX) module;
receiving, by the DEMUX module, a status message from at least one of the one or more MUX module, the status message being indicative of a changed status of the at least one of the one or more MUX module;
determining, by the DEMUX module, that the changed status of the at least one of the one or more MUX module is less available than the current status of the ROADM; and
responsive to the determination that the changed status is less available than the current status, storing, by the DEMUX module, the changed status as the current status.
