1. An energy dispersion mechanism for eyewear comprising, in at least one frame portion for retaining a lens within a lens retaining groove:
a groove formed in and extending at least partially along the frame portion that surrounds the lens such that part of the frame portion is interposed between the lens retaining groove and the groove; and
an impact dispersing material positioned and extending within the groove such that the impact dispersing material does not contact with and is spaced apart from the lens and has the frame portion interposed therebetween.
