An engineered Basidiomycete organism comprising a deletion of a gene comprising at least 90% sequence identity to the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 in its genome, wherein the Basidiomycete organism is selected from the group consisting of: Rhodosporidium toruloides, Rhodosporidium azoricum, Rhodosporidium fluviale, Rhodosporidium lusitaniae, Rhodosporidium babievae, Rhodosporidium diobovatum, Rhodosporidium paludigenum, Rhodosporidium sphaerocarpum, and Rhodosporidium kratochvilovae.
