1. A method for conferring, increasing or modifying resistance in a plant, a plant part, or a plant cell as compared to a wild type plant, a wild type plant part or a wild type plant cell against soybean rust, comprising providing a transgenic plant, plant part or plant cell comprising an exogenous nucleic acid encoding an O-methyltransferase 3 (OMT3) protein having 100% identity to SEQ ID NO: 2, wherein the transgenic plant, plant part or plant cell produces scoparone.
