where,
R3, R7 and R12 are independently selected from a hydrogen, a hydroxyl, an amino acid attached to the sterol backbone by an ester linkage or amide linkage, or an aminoalkyl attached to the sterol backbone by an ether linkage, provided that two or three of R3, R7 and R12 are independently an amino acid attached to the sterol backbone by an ester linkage or amide linkage or an aminoalkyl attached to the sterol backbone by an ether linkage; and
R18 has a structure selected from the group consisting of:
—R19—(C═O)—O—R20,
—R19—O—(C═O)—R20,
—R19—(C═O)—NX—R20,
—R19—O—R20, and
—R19—NX—R20,
where R19 is omitted or is an alkyl and R20 is a natural or endogenous terpenyl group, and X is selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl, wherein the natural or endogenous terpenyl group is formed from a terpene selected from the group consisting of:
