1. A power tool for implementing an angled cut, the power tool comprising:
a housing;
a guard profile,
a direction detector disposed on the guard profile, the direction detector including a ball bearing that rotates in a direction according to movement of a workpiece relative to the power tool when the workpiece is in contact with the ball bearing;
an operation trigger;
a motor;
a controller supported by the housing, the controller including an electronic processor and a memory storing instructions that when executed by the electronic processor configure the controller to:
activate the motor according to actuation of the operation trigger;
receive a first signal from the direction detector, the first signal indicating a first direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece as the power tool traverses the workpiece;
receive a second signal from the direction detector, the second signal indicating a second direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece as the power tool traverses the workpiece;
compare the first direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece to the second direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece; and
take a responsive action when the first direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece is different from the second direction of the power tool relative to the workpiece.
