1. A device comprising:
a display;
a memory configured to store instructions; and
a processor, wherein the processor is configured to execute the instructions to perform operations, the operations comprising:
generating a test signal or retrieving a test signal from memory;
sending the test signal to a speaker of an earpiece, wherein the earpiece includes a first microphone, the speaker, and a sealing section, wherein the earpiece is wirelessly connected to the device, and wherein the sealing section is configured to provide a level of sound attenuation between a first side of the earpiece and a second side of the earpiece when the earpiece is worn by a user;
receiving a first microphone signal from the first microphone, wherein at least a portion of the first microphone signal was measured while the test signal is played from the speaker;
applying a low pass filter to the first microphone signal to generate a filtered microphone signal, wherein the low pass filter includes a cutoff frequency below 200 Hz so that frequencies above the cutoff frequency are reduced in amplitude compared to amplitudes of the frequencies below the cutoff frequency;
calculating a value using the filtered microphone signal and a reference response,
wherein the value is the result of a non phase calculation of at least one of a
coherence of, a correlation of, a cross-correlation of, a difference of, or a combination thereof the filtered microphone signal and the reference response, wherein the value is not a ratio of intensities of the first microphone signal and the reference response;
comparing the value to a threshold to determine a seal quality between the first side and the second side of the earpiece;
generating a message to convey the seal quality; and
sending the message to the user.
