1. A system for fault current protection in a power transmission and distribution system, the system comprising:
a plurality of flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) devices, each without fault current protection, connected to and distributed on a power transmission line for power flow control; and
a fault current protection device connected to the power transmission line to protect the FACTS devices from fault currents, wherein the fault current protection device is external to the FACTS devices and connected in parallel with the FACTS devices.
