1. A negative electrode active material comprising:
a core comprising silicon; and
a coating layer disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the core, the coating layer comprising a coating material,
wherein the coating material comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of LiaVbO2 in an amount of 5 wt % to 20 wt % and MgH2 in an amount of 2 wt % to 4.5 wt %, wherein 0.5<a<1.5 and 0.5<b<1.5.
