1. A core-shell particle, comprising
1) An outer shell comprising at least one first polymer; and
2) at least one particulate phase embedded and/or dispersed within the outer shell, wherein the particulate phase comprises at least one inorganic oxide, metal salt, polymer, organometallic compound or contrast agent, and wherein the at least one particulate phase is releasable from or perdurable within the outer shell to create a pore in the outer shell upon exposure to an external stimulus, and wherein the at least one particulate phase has a different mechanical index from the outer shell.
