1. A system configured for use in combination with a) an extracorporeal device having a heater, a cooler, a cassette-receiving area, a peristaltic pumping apparatus and a controller and b) a body heat exchanger positional on or in the body of a human or animal subject, said system comprising:
a cassette that is insertable into the cassette-receiving area and fillable with thermal exchange fluid, the cassette including a cassette housing, a frame connected to the cassette housing, a heat exchange bag attached to the frame, and a friction reducing layer that is positioned over the heat exchange bag and affixed to the frame, wherein the friction reducing layer facilitates removal of the heat exchange bag from the cassette-receiving area of the system within which the heat exchange bag is insertable;
a delivery conduit that extends from the cassette and is connectable to an inflow port of the body heat exchanger;
a return conduit that extends from the cassette and is connectable to an outflow port of the body heat exchanger; and
peristaltic pump tubing that extends exteriorly from the cassette housing and is fluidly coupled to the delivery conduit, the peristaltic pump tubing being removably positionable in the peristaltic pumping apparatus while the cassette is positioned in the cassette-receiving area; whereby, when the delivery conduit is connected to the inflow port of the body heat exchanger, the return conduit is connected to the outflow port of the body heat exchanger and the peristaltic pump tubing is positioned in the peristaltic pumping apparatus, the peristaltic pump tubing is compressible by the peristaltic pumping apparatus to cause thermal exchange fluid to circulate from the cassette, through the delivery conduit, into the inflow port of the body heat exchanger, out of the outflow port of the body heat exchanger, through the return conduit and back into the cassette.
