1. A lead acid battery that exhibits outgassing of H2 and O2 gases, the lead acid battery comprising a vapor pressure barrier in a head space of the lead acid battery, the vapor pressure barrier comprising:
a porous membrane with an oil layer on its surface, or a non-woven layer with an oil layer on its surface.
