1. A method performed by a communication platform configured to distribute a plurality of media streams among a plurality of client devices connected to the communication platform over one or more networks, the method comprising:
receiving the plurality of media streams from the plurality of client devices at the communication platform, the communication platform connecting the plurality of client devices in a communication session;
assigning a pair of names to each of the plurality of media streams, each of the pair of names including a contribution name and a distribution name;
causing presentation, on a first device of the plurality of client devices, a list including at least subset of the distribution names of the plurality of media streams;
causing presentation, on the first device, a first indication of a first distribution name corresponding to an active speaker and a second indication of a second distribution name corresponding to an inactive speaker;
receiving input indicating a selection of the second distribution name corresponding to the inactive speaker;
causing presentation, on the first device, of a first media stream corresponding to the inactive speaker.
