1. An electrode for a rechargeable energy storage device, the electrode comprising:
a plurality of inner layers interposed between two outer layers, said inner layers comprising a plurality of electrode material layers ME composed of at least one electrode active material and a plurality of porous current collector layers CC composed of electrically conductive material whose electronic conductivity is greater than or equal to 102 S·cm−1, said layers of electrode material ME and current collector CC being alternated,
wherein said outer layers do not consist of said porous current collector layers CC, and
wherein said electrode has a total thickness more than 4 mm.
