1. A multi-filament high temperature superconducting cable, comprising: a plurality of stacked exfoliated filaments, each of said filaments including a superconducting layer and a stabilizing metal layer in the absence of a substrate layer and a buffer layer, and wherein the adjacent stacked filaments are maintained in uniform mechanical contact with each other to allow the uninterrupted flow of current from the superconducting layer of one filament to the superconducting layer of an adjacent layer, and wherein said uniform mechanical contact provides a level of contact resistance between adjacent stacked filaments of less than about 10 μΩcm2.
